C.B.S. Charleville – Expanding Curriculum

For the first time ever in the history of C.B.S. Charleville the sound of music will echo through the hallowed hallways of the school as music is introduced to the students of the junior certificate as an additional subject along with a music module for the transition year class in the expanded curriculum.

A variety of instrumentation is being made available and tuition will be given in guitar, recorder and violin. For those students who can already play an instrument, a small music ensemble has been formed and this group will be given the opportunity to perform at school Masses, at awards day and graduation evenings and other opportunities, which may arise.

Music tuition will be delivered under the guidance of music teacher Ms. Catherine Horgan, who said that in widening the extra curricular spectrum it is hoped to encourage students to take part in music competitions such as Scor and to give them the opportunity to take examinations in their chosen instrument.

Commenting on the new subject, school principal, Mr. Tom Clarke said, “This is a welcome development and is in line with our policy of expanding the curriculum to make it as attractive and wide ranging as possible for present and intending students of C.B.S. Charleville.”
