Green Day 2007
Now into its second year in the green school initative, Charleville CBS decided to host a green day to renew energy and focus efforts in obtaining the first green flag. The first theme in the green flag initative is is Litter, waste management and recycling.To date the school has made great efforts in these areas
- Colour coding bins to facilate the segregation of rubbish
- Establishing a Recycling centre in the school, recycling used batteries,used mobile phones,and used ink cartriges.
- Collection of food waste from the school canteen to distribute to local dog owners and farmers.
- Periodical clean up of the school grounds
The school’s green committee which is comprised of the 5th Year SPHE students and the the student council launched the green school initative for this academic year 2007-2008 by hosting a green day on the 17th October.The theme for the day: “A green theme for a green day for a green school” was displayed around the school and incorporated into a poster competition open to all junior certificate students. Poster competiton winners:
- First prize a 1 GB Zen Creative Stone MP3 Player went to Mike O’Callaghan from 2A
- Second prize €30 went to James O’Flynn from 2 Alpha
- Third prize €20 went to Liam Chawke from 2A
- Fourth prize a set of art brushes went to Karol Powlak.
An non-uniform day was the main aspect of the Green Day to raise money for the school environmental account. Students were requested to wear at least one visible item of green. Prizes were given to the students with the “Greenest Outfit” The following were the winners of the outfit competition:
- First prize: 1 GB philips MP3 Player went to Brendan Casey from 3A
- Second prize: touch screen Sudoku puzzle went to Conor Barry from 2A
- Third prize: a bin of Fox's creation biscuits went to Conor Chawke from 1A
Overall the Green day was very successful creating a great sense of awareness, incoporating a spirit of enjoyment and fun as well as raising €685.00. Great credit is due to all those who participated.
