Fundraising for Charity

C.B.S. Students give to St. Vincent de Paul Society

During the early weeks of December the Student Council of C.B.S. Charleville co-ordinated a food appeal within the school, in aid of the local St. Vincent de Paul Society. The response from all the students in the school was extraordinarily generous, resulting in the provision of 15 well-stocked hampers for deserving families at Christmas. Eamonn Holly and Ian Doyle gratefully accepted the hampers on behalf of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Fund Raise for Our Lady’s Hospital Crumlin

It has become a proud tradition within Charleville C.B.S. to raise money for a selected charity each year. Previous beneficiaries include improving health care in Zambia and Charleville St. Vincent de Paul Society. This year the student council organized a Greyhound Race Day on Tuesday 15th March in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children Crumlin in Dublin.

Greyhounds and trainers were bought by the ever generous locals, while students also had the opportunity of to place small bets on the greyhounds on the day. A non-uniform day and a raffle were also organized to raise funds and a sincere thank-you to the businesses who supported races.

Moran’s Drapers generously supplied the raffle prizes, while Charleville Tyre and Autos donated a V.I.P. pas to the Ferrari exhibition, which will be at the forthcoming Charleville Agricultural Show. A car service voucher was also very well received by the students and the eventual winner of that prize.

We would like to thank all the staff of Charleville CBS, especially Denis O’Donovan, Tim O’Mahony, Tom Clarke, Mick O’Callaghan and Charleville G.A.A. Club for facilitating the event, and of course, all the students of CBS and anybody who contributed to the event, which raised a magnificent €2,000 for Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
