Career Guidance
Here at C.B.S. Charleville the Career Guidance Teacher aims to facilitate all students’ career needs and assure them of continuous support and counselling.
In the course of their lives, people are faced with the need to make significant decisions that affect both themselves and those around them. For second level pupils these choices are focused on three key areas:
- Personal and social
- Educational
- Career
The career Guidance Counsellor will assist students to avail of the following activities:
- Counselling: Helping students on an individual/group basis to explore their own thoughts, feelings and the choices open to them.
- Information: providing pupils with objective and factual data relating the third level options.
- Assessment: Using aptitude tests and career interest tests to help pupils make informed decisions.
- Educational Development Programmes: Providing knowledge and skill relating to studying, exams and choices of subjects and levels.
- Personal and Social Development Programmes: Assisting pupils in their personal and social development, decision making and planning.
Careers Update
During a busy first term our 6th year students were made aware of their options after second level. Individual career interviews and a full day of aptitude tests have also taken place. Guest speakers to the school have included UCC, UL, LIT and CIT. Other outside agencies, including FAS and the PLC colleges will be visiting next term. It is important to remember that the firs CAO closing date will be 20th Jan, so get those forms sent off during the Christmas holidays. Early in December we held and information evening for 6th year parents, if you missed this or would like further information, please contact the Guidance Counsellor ant the school.
