Welcome to C.B.S Charleville

Welcome to the CBS Charleville website. Whether you are a parent, past or present pupil, staff member or friend we invite you to browse our site. We have a long and proud tradition of academic excellence and sporting achievement here at CBS. We value each member of our school community and presently we have a highly dedicated and caring staff consisting of 21 teachers, 5 special needs assistants, a school secretary, a caretaker and two cleaning staff. Currently we have 240 students and all of the above combined allows us the ability to develop each student’s potential and care for each person individually.

Academically we offer a wide range of subjects to both Junior and Leaving Certificate level, including the LCVP programme and Transition year. Extra curricular activities are an integral part of the life of the school. These include hurling, soccer, rugby, debating, chess and quizzes. Currently a major internal lunchtime yard soccer league is underway with over twenty teams involved.

The development of the whole person is central to our educational ethos based on the philosophy of Edmund Rice. This includes the promotion of the Christian Faith, charity work, retreats, a student’s council, environmental issues such as the Green (Environmental) and White Flag (Health Promoting School) programmes as well as national and international school trips.

Parents play a vital role in CBS and are very supportive of the school. We have a very active and dedicated parent’s council and of course two parents are on the Board of Management.

We have just completed a major extension to the school. This includes four new classrooms, an art room, a computer room, a resource room, offices, a parents meeting room, toilets, a locker room and a disable lift. These facilities have greatly enhanced our school community and allow for teacher based classrooms. We are currently undertaking a project in conjunction with Charleville GAA club to build a sports hall which will greatly enhance the sporting dimension for the school, club and local community of Charleville.
